Latest SAD--More Higher Ed Bashing. Did you know it's one of Satan's False Refuges?
by Cadellin inwell, folks, this little mermaid just got back from the sad she had to attend w/her husband so as to keep a measure of peace (we're in the process of working out compromises...you know how it goes) i was pretty mad by the end of the day (thank god it ended at 4:00) mostly because i learned some new things that i would never have guessed in a million years.. did you know that satan is setting up artificial "refuges" as a counterfeit to jehovah's "true refuge"which is...his organization???
now satan's "false refuges" are pretty damn bad, like, for instance, "independent thinking.
" no, siree bob, we don't want none of that!!

Sorry you have to waste a weekend only to hear such a load of crap. I would love to stand my perfect little JW nephews up there on the stage to see what a high school education will get ya and how totally miserable there are. Hope your compromises are working and your poor family wakes up soon! NMKA

Common thread, of marriage failure.
by free2beme inever see this pattern.... young brother hits 18-20 and his hormons are on overdrive.
he can not find someone in the congregation, so he sneaks out and finds a 'wordly girl' who thinks sex before marriage is ok and normal.
so he feels this is a way to deal with the hormones and basically, goes sex wild on her and hopes no one finds out.

Yes, I have seen it many times before. Last time the young man had 3 little ones with his newly converted wife. Then she wised up moved back home with the children, what a mess! NMKA

I honestly do! I know what I went through getting out of the Borg and I have so much respect and appreciation for those that have blazed the trail ahead of me and empathy for those to follow. I care the most for those who can't get out in a neat clean way, like if they have a spouse still in or children, my heart just breaks for them. Sometimes I think of someone that was so distraught and then we don't hear from them anymore and I worry what happened. NMKA

Facebook privacy settings are crucial to control your info!!
by WingCommander ini just thought i'd start this topic about facebook privacy settings as i am seeing it come up on here and other forums a lot where you have people who are on facebook and then their jw family or friends are requesting to be friends with them and they don't know what to do!!
we are hearing it time and time again: you "friended" some jw family member, long-ago pioneer partner, etc, etc.
that person then goes through your facebook profile and sees everything you've written, your photos of you and your new life including holidays, partners, worldly activities, etc, etc.

Wing, I had this problem too. We were new to face book and some witness family requested us as friends, next thing you know the gossip up and down the eastern seaboard went crazy about one kid going to prom and the other one playing sports etc. Then a friend (lowleymindedwoman) turned me on to blocking. So i found someone from our circuit that had like 483 friends, and went through and blocked all of them and all of their friends too, I think I covered the whole circuit! They don't know they were blocked and when they try to bring up your name absolutely nothing comes up as if you don't have an acct. Even if you have friends in common they can see nothing about you or you comments and you cannot see theirs. Beautiful!!! NMKA

I came to this realization May 2008 and told my husband on the way home from a Sunday meeting that I would not be ever going again. Even though I did not know how it would all play out, God it felt good. The road might be a little bumpy but freedom is worth a few bumps. Congratulations! NMKA

Haven't posted in a while...
by LunaFing inhello guys!
i have been mia for a while, but now i'd like to share my new situation and get some feedback: last year, i was diagnosed with rapid cycling bipolar disorder.
my husband (who is not a jw) and my very jw family didn't take it seriously.

It sounds like you have not found the right medication combination as of yet. I think the WT society has become more enlightened in recent years and would recommend a person take their meds as ordered. However the JW lifestyle is what I think is quite harsh on a person. Think about it you can never do enough, meetings and prepare for meetings, socialize after the meeting, go out in service, prepare for service, clean the car the night before. Go to the assembly, volunteer while you are there, keep those kids quite for 8 hours, wake up early iron clothes and make lunch. Be at work Monday morning, set a good example while you are there and witness to your co workers. The list is endless!
It just doesn't allow for that balance that you need of working, rest, exercise, good nutrition. When you are manic you try to accomplish all the above and when you are depressed you feel guilty that you can't accomplish even one of them. Then you have many judgemental eyes upon you. Tell you mother any extra pressure right now is definitly not what you need, don't know if she will accept that or not. I hope you find a regimen that works well for you soon. NMKA

Has anyone successfully faded without moving out of the territory?
by NiceDream inso far i've managed to avoid speaking to the elders who drop by.
just wondering if they'll eventually give up in a couple years.
anyone have experience with this?.

We stopped attending very abruptly in 2008. We still live in the territory, same house and surrounded by relatives. The first few months ( after they realized we weren't just sick or on vacation) someone was here every Saturday afternoon and Sunday, knocking at the doors, that eventually subsided. Now maybe every six months someone will stop by. I never once answered the door or the phone ( although I am worried about them coming when I am outside or during a kids birthday party). Oh and they called wanting our time for a few months. My husbands theory is that they have new problems and have hopefully just forgotten about us! NMKA
